Examinations

For examination sessions, the School follows the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance for ballet and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing for tap and holds an excellent record of results for both Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations.

Students can only be entered for these examinations having been taught by a fully qualified and registered teacher of the RAD or ISTD.

The majority of examinations take place at Long Ditton Village Hall.

GRADE EXAMINATIONS & PRESENTATION CLASSES

Pupils are entered at all levels, from Pre-Primary, through the Grades up to Grade 8 Award. When preparing students for examinations, we are able to provide the time and dedication needed in a calm atmosphere so that our pupils may achieve their full potential on the day. In the run up to the examination, all pupils are required to attend two lessons per week and our 100% pass rate reflects this careful preparation.

It is not compulsory to enter an examination within the School and students may automatically move up to the next level having learnt the work.

VOCATIONAL GRADED EXAMINATIONS

Daily classes at Vocational Level also take place for students wishing to pursue a career in dance.

For the Advanced students, hoping to gain a place at one of the top vocational schools, we provide expert tuition so that they may be successful at audition and go on to pursue their goal. Many of our past students have gained places at The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School, Arts Educational, Elmhurst, Rambert, London Studio Centre and Trinity Laban for contemporary dance. They are now busy with their careers in companies, West End shows or teaching internationally.

OPPORTUNITIES, AUDITIONS AND PRIVATE TUITION

For the young students who are showing dedication, enthusiasm and ability, there are opportunities to audition for the Royal Ballet School’s Associate classes and Summer Schools. Many students have become a Junior, Mid and Senior Associates of the Royal Ballet School.

THE IRIS WEST BURSARY

The Iris West Bursary is awarded every year to one student who has shown a love of dance, focus and a marked improvement throughout the school year
