The School is run by teachers who believe in achieving a standard of technique as well as developing a love of dance. Class sizes are kept small to ensure each individual’s needs are met and that every pupil is encouraged to achieve their full potential. Open days are held at the end of every term so that parents can observe and enjoy their child’s progress.


Denise Winmill began her training in 1954 at the Muriel Tweedy School in Manchester. At 16, she was successful in gaining a place at the Royal Ballet Upper School in London, to train as a professional dancer. She received her tuition under the expert eye of Dame Ninette de Valois, Valerie Adams and Julia Farron, to name but a few. Upon graduation, she joined Sadler’s Wells Opera Ballet Touring Company under the direction of Peter Darrell. After many happy years with the company, she retired to devote her time to her family.

In 1980, she returned to the Royal Ballet School to embark on their prestigious Teachers’ Diploma course and graduated in 1981. From 1982 to 2019, Denise was a teacher on the Royal Ballet School’s Teachers’ Training Course working with current artists who wish to pursue a teaching career.

In 1982, she opened her own school in Long Ditton. At this time, she was invited to become a Major Examiner of the RAD and later, was the tutor for the Professional Dancers Teachers’ Course at the Academy Headquarters. Denise has also taught both boys and girls at the Royal Ballet Lower School, at White Lodge in Richmond Park.

Her freelance teaching takes her to Italy, Portugal and across the UK.

Miss Paula began her dance training at 3 years old, progressing from her local dance school to Stonelands Performing Arts School and Swindon Dance for advanced training in performing arts. Whilst at Swindon Dance, she gained her ISTD dance teaching qualifications in 2012.

She has taught at the Denise Winmill school of dance for over 7 years and has recently gained her progressing ballet technique qualified teacher status.
